‘/‘ In 2020 I connected with a man on a dating website. He had photos that reflected a man that traveled, several photos were on airplanes. It would turn out that he had a whole collection of airport photos. He loved showing the world how “important” he was. He loved giving the impression that he was rich, although I never established this to be a truth. He loved wearing designer sweaters, I mean the ones that cost like a grand a piece, usually a size or two too small, but that didn’t seem to matter. He loved bling, expensive watches, that he said were in the $5k plus range. None of this was really too important to me.

’/‘ A few pretty nondescript text messages went back in forth, for a month or two. He was supposedly a doctor of mental health. He is not registered in any medical platform. He is supposedly a member of Doctors Without Borders, from Haiti, and travels quite a bit. So I initially thought the guy is intelligent, he sent the most amazing thoughts and he posted things on facebook that were nothing short of brilliant. After some time I learned that most of it was other peoples work.

’/‘I suppose there were enough red flags early on that I should have paid attention to. He was tall, dark, looked a little older than his 47 years, but sent me poems, beautiful French songs, and professions of love that were just captivating. “I am going to make you the happiest woman in the world”. Over and over. At some point I recall sending something saying that he wasn’t really showing any real interest and that basically I should move on to a man who might be really interested. That was countered by a conversation about his scheduled, a promise of trips to the Dominican Republic, questions about my willingness to consider living outside of the country, in the DR in the future. This was his retirement plan, oh and lots and lots of airline pictures, pictures of condos from the DR.
